Since discovering she is a shape-shifting dragon, Bryn McKenna has seen her world thrown into chaos. Being a "crossbreed"—part Red dragon and part Blue—means Bryn will never fit in. Not with dragon society. Not with the archaic and controlling Directorate. And definitely not when she has striped hair and a not-so-popular affection for rule-breaking…
But sneaking around with her secret boyfriend, Zavien, gets a whole lot harder when he's betrothed to someone else. Someone who isn't a mixed breed and totally forbidden. And for an added complication, it turns out Bryn's former archnemesis Jaxon Westgate isn't quite the evil asshat she thought. Now she's caught between her desire to fit in and a need to set things on fire. Literally.
Because if Bryn can't adapt to the status quo…well, then maybe it's time for her to change it.

This book was well written. The main character struggles to maintain her identity while acknowledging the need to conform slightly to fit into the dragon society. She feels the need to do this if only to find a deeper connection with her family and friends. The story addresses the conflict between tradition vs growth. The value of some tradition and how those tradition sometimes trap you in ways you don't see. Sometimes it takes a person outside the norm to question things to affect change. I enjoyed this book and can't way to read the next to see where the character will go. The only thing I didn't like so much was the relationship between her and Z. Even though he treated her poorly I struggled with their relationship. Much in the same way she does. I have a hard time seeing him as a manipulative person. Maybe he will redeem himself and turn out as a friend in the next book? I feel that jaxson uncle just kind of gave up and I kind of wish he had popped up even more as an ally. I loved the book and can't wait to see the next one.Product details

Bridges Burned Going Down in Flames Book 2 eBook Chris Cannon Reviews
4.5 stars -- Starts up RIGHT where book 1 ended. Feels a bit more like one long narrative that's broken into pieces than what I'm used to from series books...not that that's a bad thing, but it means the endings of the books are kind of abrupt and don't conclude in a clear manner.
LOVE having Bryn back. That girl is awesomesauce, seriously. I just want to high five her all over the place. She goes through so many things in this book, and while she occasionally indulges in a bit of angst, it's not long lasting or unreasonable. My feelings are mixed with how she deals with some of the tragic news she receives.
I was COMPLETELY surprised with the direction of the love story. And yet I really loved the directions it seems to be going -- it's kind of refreshing.
I LOVE the bond and friendship between Bryn and Valmont. I always had a soft spot for him in book 1, so was excited to see his role expanded in this book. Can't wait to see where that's going in the series....
Ms. Cannon continually surprises me with her secondary characters. Whenever I think I have them figured out, she spins me on my head and says "nope". Ivy and Clint were awesome as usual, but am intrigued with Jaxon, Rhianna, Lilith, and her Grandmother. I can't help but wonder what happened to Merrick though...he just disappeared in this book....it surprised me when the Christmas Eve ball came and he wasn't there.
All in all, lots of surprises that kept me on my toes, and some intriguing twists to the norm. Had a few tiny niggles that bothered me, hence the round down, but seriously falling in love with this series. Can't wait to see where it goes!!!
Bryn’s life is about to get harder. Her boyfriend has a fiancé, which she doesn’t accept. The school is attacked which she doesn’t accept. Her parents are gone, which she doesn’t accept. Her enemy is now her friend, which she doesn’t accept. Bryn really is her own worse enemy sometimes.
Dragon society is vastly different from human society. For instance, dragons are paired so that the best genes produce off-springs. They have a herd mentality, if you will and it is truly about survival of their kind. Bryn decides instead of accepting this to fight it. Not everyone will be on her side though. Her enemy becomes her friend and some friends end up being enemies.
Bryn’s love life is a mess. Mainly because Zavien is being a jerk. I am really hoping that his attitude is to protect Bryn because I really don’t understand it. He was so sweet and kind in the first book that now he just- well I kinda wanted to punch him in the face. Which would not have been good, although he does deserve it.
Bryn is different and sometimes different is good. She brings with her change- change for herself and for the Directorate.
Bridges Burned is the perfect second book in a trilogy. It allows the story to move along at a great pace and there is a ton of character building. There are questions left to be answered and new ones created. But mostly there is a sense of urgency for the third book to already be released.

I am trying hard to like this story. I have lost a lot of respect for Bryn. I am almost halfway through the book and she is such a clingy whiner that if things don't turn around I may not finish the story. She seems to require the approval and love of Zavian in order to be valuable as a person. It seems that every thing in her life revolves around him. She chases after him relentlessly. It's sickening. She has become a sorry example for other teen girls to follow. This depiction of love is twisted at best. Will let you know if I can stand to finish this.
I finished the story. Just about the time I was going to delete the story from my kindle, it turned around. She still seems to have to have some guy to be worthy but the rest of this cliffhanger was riveting to me. I give this a 3.5. I am waiting for the next book. If the author wants to edit anything edit out the first half whining.
